What do you get when you take 7 people, two dogs, and a boatload of stuff to the beach? Mostly fun, but also a very crowded vehicle, and a few puppy quarrels over toys! :-)
One (sometimes bad) habit I took from camping and applied to a beach vacation was over-preparing and mostly all that it got me was a really uncomfortable ride to the outer banks. Amazon came to the rescue and I had a car top carrier delivered to the beach before packing to come home :-) This carrier was inexpensive and worked out really well for us:

This is really our only real trip... the camper is kinda like a weekend home on wheels.. lol. And it has better a/c than our house which makes it appealing... lol
